Every person has a story
worth capturing

Getting up and running with My Story+ takes just a few minutes.

1. Launch My Story+ on your Mac.
2. Select Empty Interview or Import from CSV to load an Interview. Select Import from Zip to load a previous exported Interview
3. Enter the Interview Title.
4. Click Create new interviewee and enter their name, relationship (e.g. "Grandmother"), and an optional photo. You can also choose Select Interviewee if they had been previously been created
5. Your new interview will appear in the sidebar, ready for questions and recording.

My Story+ can import any structured question set from a CSV file.

1. Prepare your CSV file with three columns: Topic, Question, Notes. The Notes column is optional.
2. Go to File → Import CSV and select your file.
3. Questions are automatically grouped into sections by their Topic value.
4. Review the imported sections in the sidebar — each topic becomes a collapsible section.

Tip: Both included templates are formatted in this exact structure and can be used as starting points for your own question sets.

• Use the sidebar to see all sections and questions at a glance. Click any question to jump directly to it.
• The Inspector panel (right side) shows the current question, notes, transcript, and linked recordings.

Capture a full video interview with your chosen camera and microphone (Settings).

1. Navigate to the interview and select the question you want to start from.
2. Select Record Video.
3. Click Stop when finished answering the question. The transcript of the video will be generated.
4. Copy the transcript to the Answer window, edit as necessary

Audio-only mode is ideal when a camera isn't available, or when the interviewee prefers not to be filmed.

1. Navigate to the interview and select the question you want to start from.
2. Select Record Audio.
3. Click Stop when finished answering the question. The transcript of the video will be generated.
4. Copy the transcript to the Answer window, edit as necessary

1. Click any question in the sidebar or main list to open it.
2. In the Inspector panel, you'll see all recordings linked to that question.
3. Click the Play button to watch the video or listen to the audio inline.

Each question response can have photos and supporting documents attached — perfect for adding a scan of an old letter, a family photograph, a birth certificate, or any file that enriches the answer.

Adding Photos

1. Select the question you want to attach a photo to in the sidebar.
2. In the Inspector panel on the right, scroll to the Photos section.
3. Click Add Photo. A file picker opens — choose any image file (JPEG, PNG, HEIC, etc.).
4. The photo is copied into the interview's folder and displayed as a thumbnail in the Inspector. You can add as many photos as you like.
5. To remove a photo, hover over its thumbnail and click Delete, then confirm.

Adding Documents

1. In the Inspector panel, scroll to the Documents section.
2. Click Add Document. A file picker opens — you can select any file type (PDF, Word, spreadsheet, etc.).
3. The document is copied into the interview's folder. Its original filename is preserved so it's easy to identify.
4. Click a document name to open it in its default application. To remove it, click Delete beside the filename and confirm.

Where are the files stored? Photos are saved to My Story+/{Name}/{Title}/Photos/ and documents to My Story+/{Name}/{Title}/Documents/ — both inside your ~/Documents/My Story+/ folder. They are included when you export or zip the interview package.

1. With the interview selected, click the Export button.
2. Choose Only export completed questions for a consise report.
